Chasing After Cotton
Last evening we were sitting in the neighbor's front yard enjoying the evening. The weather was perfect, and has a slight breeze so that the mosquitoes hadn't quite descended in hordes. The adults were perfectly content to just sit and relax, but this was not the case with the three boys. Two were playing a "condensed" version of baseball, the bases spanning the width of their driveway, and "little" Michael had discovered that there were Unidentified Flying Objects falling from "the sky" and decided to chase them. What these UFO objects were turned out to be cotton from a nearby cottonwood tree. This entertained him for quite a while taking him down the driveway, around the neighbors trees, and running through the grass. The fun took a turn for the worse when the elder Michael (not thinking about the ramifications of his actions) decided to chase a cotton piece into the middle of the street. This, of course, prompted the younger Michael to follow suit, to the great consternation of his parents. He simply couldn't understand why he was not allowed to chase the cotton in the street, especially since "big" Michael was doing it. Fortunately, Miss Tammy came to the rescue because she caught a cotton piece, and gave it to "little" Michael, and he ran proudly to show Mommy & Daddy that he had caught one.
